#4 New Systems

As I await the prototype cards being delivered, I’ve been pondering some options for added game mechanics. And I’ve decided to have a mechanic that adds a point system. So any “Adventure” card that requires leaving the home and spending money (“Museum”, “Zoo”, “Out to Eat”, etc.) would require an accumulation of points. Let’s say the “Museum” card requires 30 points to be active. A card that might not be all that exciting to draw will have added meaning if it grants 5 points toward going to the museum. Different cards will have different point values. And I see some cards having 0 points. The idea is to make the less desired cards more fun.

The other mechanic I’ve decided on is having the backs of the cards have paths drawn on them. Some will have “start” on them, others will have “finish!”. The idea is to connect cards to each other through the random paths drawn on each card, like a maze, until a “start” card is connected to a “finish” card. Once connected, the child can take out any card from the deck they want. Then the deck is then reshuffled and the game continues.
I’m going to be spending a lot of time creating the systems. The points system will be easy to implement. The maze system will not. But that’s the fun of it all. Once I have the cards in my hand, which should be in the next few days, I’ll be able to conceptualize better. I’m excited to add more dynamics and fun to the game! That’s all for now.
Go team,
Seth
